Kidney Stone Prevention Tips

If you've ever suffered the agony of Kidney Stones, you know for sure that you will do everything in your power to stop them coming back - am I right? It changed a lot of my dietry habits and I pass on a few easy tips for you.

Eat more fresh fruit. Fruits like Grapes, cranberries, oranges, tomatoes and water melon are particularly beneficial. Drink more water too. Preferably distilled water - if you drink mineral (bottled) water, check the calcium content and go with the lowest calcium content brand. Try to avoid tap water.

Cut your alcohol consumption if you can. A beer or two or a glass of wine (red is best), is going to cause you no problems and is in fact medically recognized as being good for you, but do avoid strong spirits and fortified wines like sherry and port.

Don't use the over-the-counter stomach remedies like Tums or Rennie as these are highly calcium based. Use this home remedy instead - just mix a teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda with water (tastes awful but it does the job nicely).

Just following these simple tips will reduce the risk of suffering from Kidney Stones again. Give them a try!
